Common questions from delegates preparing for a NOGMUN conference.

• Do I need previous Model UN experience?

  No. NOGMUN welcomes first-time delegates every year, and the delegate preparation resources walk you through everything a committee expects of you, from how debate is run to the documents you will be asked to write.

• What is a position paper, and do I have to write one?

  A position paper sets out where your country stands on the topic before debate begins. Delegates are expected to submit one, and NOGMUN publishes sample papers you can model your own on.

• How should I prepare before the conference?

  Read your committee topic, research the history and interests of the country you represent, and get familiar with the rules of procedure so you can shape debate rather than follow it. The delegate preparation page collects the material for each of these.

• What happens during a committee session?

  Committee runs on a set procedure: a speakers list, moderated and unmoderated caucus for focused discussion and negotiation, and motions that move the body between them. Debate works towards a resolution, which the committee amends and then votes on.

• Can I take part as staff instead of a delegate?

  Yes. NOGMUN opens staff positions each year for Chairs, Committee Staff, and other roles. The Get Involved page describes each position and links to the application.
